If you’re missing one or more teeth, a traditional crown, bridge, or denture isn’t the only restorative solution for you to consider. Dental implants have been widely celebrated for their versatility and the natural results they help patients achieve. Certain restorations, like traditional dentures, can begin to slip over time, but implant-supported dentures eliminate slipping.
What accounts for these superior results? It has everything to do with structure. Implants are attached to the jawbone via a titanium anchor that, once in place, acts like a prosthetic root. As a result, implant-supported restorations have a crown-and-root structure similar to what teeth naturally have.
A full implant procedure is completed in two phases over a matter of months. In the first phase, a nearby oral surgeon places one or more titanium implants in the jaw. The number of implants you receive is determined by the number of teeth you need to replace. A single tooth can be supported by just one implant while a partial or full denture will require support from multiple implants.
Once your implant(s) has been placed, a process known as osseointegration begins. During osseointegration, your implant(s) form a strong, natural bond with the jawbone laying the foundation for amazing results. When osseointegration is complete, you’ll return to our Aledo dental office so Dr. Kovach can attach your new crown, bridge, or denture.
To help you determine whether implants are right for you, Dr. Kovach would be happy to complete a thorough evaluation and consultation.
